National Nurses Week

Where are you from?

I am originally from Nassau Bahamas.

Tell us a fun fact about you.

I love to dance and read.

Where did you go to school?

I attended Bethune- Cookman University.

Why did you become a nurse?

When I was 6, a friend of my mother took me to a hospital to see sick patients. It was then I decided I wanted to be a nurse. I’ve always loved people and caring for the sick so I stuck to my dreams no matter what and here I am today fulfilling God’s purpose for my life!

Why do you enjoy providing home care?

Patients are vulnerable when they come home. They are anxious. It is a heartwarming experience when the patient starts to improve and feel at peace at home again. That’s the goal!

What would you like your patients to know?

I want my patients to know they always come first and that no matter what they are going through, I am here.

What would you like family members of patients to know?

Same as above, with them included. I care about all of them!

How do you maintain your passion for nursing?

I maintain my passion for nursing through professional development so that I have the cutting edge knowledge and skills to provide my patients the best care (nursing magazines, seminars, additional schooling, etc.)

What do you believe is the key to superior home care?

The key to superior home care is always putting the patient first! It gives the drive and will to stay on top of things. Superior care is leaving the judgments, self, criticism, feelings about anything other than the patient at the door.

Do you have an experience as a nurse that has shaped how you provide care?

There are so many experiences. I will say the most rewarding have been off duty moments. It reminds me that people matter and I’m here on this earth to serve. Superior home care is service!
